Cops ‘n’ Kids Reading Room visitors sometimes recognize
Jackie Bayak from her days as a Bethlehem Area School District teacher assistant. Now retired, Jackie volunteers with several community organizations and spends family time with her husband, two children and four grandchildren.

Jackie has been a Cops ‘n’ Kids volunteer since summer 2007. She first heard about the Cops ‘n’ Kids Children’s Literacy Program from her friend Linda while swimming at the YMCA. Jackie began volunteering in the book storage room, but decided that it was “too quiet”. Jackie enjoys meeting people and talking with them, so she started volunteering in the reading room every Wednesday afternoon. Jackie particularly looks forward to volunteering throughout the Lehigh Valley at Cops ‘n’ Kids special events. In addition, Jackie volunteers at Musikfest (25 years!) and Christkindlmarkt. A life-long resident of SouthSide Bethlehem, Jackie currently serves on the Mayor’s SouthSide Task Force.

Stop by the Cops ‘n’ Kids Reading Room and say hello to Jackie Bayak. Don’t be surprised if you find her crocheting hats for the South Bethlehem Neighborhood Center, or crocheting a really big mitten to go with the mitten story, or creating seasonal decorations – keeping busy in between helping children select books, reading stories to children, labeling books . . . and various other projects for Cops ‘n’ Kids.
